tartancrusader 's review for:

The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
4.0

I first read this shortly after it was first published (in English) in...*checks* 2009. I have to say I wasn't overly impressed, I thought it a weak second book and (mentally, at least, since I apparently haven't done it here) rated it 3 stars.

Fast forward...*takes off socks* *counts on toes* ...9 years and I happened to comment on a friend's review of "The Shadow of the Wind" my thoughts on the weakness of this. His reply that it's main fault was that it was not 'The Shadow of the Wind' struck me as both extremely intriguing and extremely plausible, so I returned to the text. And you know what? He was right on the money. Thank you, Mr Usual, for spotlighting this for me.

This is a wonderfully dark and atmospheric gothic tale which has indeed as it's main flaw the fact that it isn't 'The Shadow of the Wind'.

All this is a roundabout way of saying that if, like me, it has been a long time since you read this then I think it's worth a revisit round about now. You might just be surprised at how good a story this is. It's not as great as its predecessor, but then few things are. Don't let that put you off.
