This book took me in directions I didn't think we would be going. On the synopsis this book originally came off to me as a sci-fi, first contact story about a girl's life after discovering alien life. Instead, this story amazed me by telling a story of fame and the how it can change you.

April May is a pretty great protagonist. Hank is able to write a relatable character that you somehow want to root for even as her actions and thoughts begin to change with this newfound fame. It's even written in a way that you feel for her, and understand all her intentions, just like you're in her situation yourself. The way this story rationalizes her thoughts makes the insane situation shes in seem almost plausible - there were very few points where I thought "that's unrealistic" even though the plot of this story is not something that I could see happening in my lifetime. April wasn't exactly a likable protagonist - at points I was frustrated with her. But she seems like an incredibly /human/ character, which contrasts heavily with the extraterrestrial theme of the novel.

The pacing was also fantastic - good pacing is something that usually goes unnoticed because good pacing means you'll never comment on it at all because it worked so seamlessly. But at no point did I feel like parts of the book dragged, or were too fast that I was lost, I felt like I was learning right with the characters.

Overall I would recommend this book for anyone who loves character studies like I do, and delving more into what it means to be a good person, and the way fame can change that.
