The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen
2.0
The Great God Pan is historically significant, especially to the horror genre, but throughout the entire story I felt like I was constantly missing key moments in the plot and was, more than anything else, confused. Machen relies very heavily on describing how people react to things to convey information about the thing, but this sort of communication is one that I greatly struggle with, so I would not be surprised if this put me at a disadvantage when approaching this story.
These facts considered, The Great God Pan felt incomplete and lacking in most aspects of a story. I plan on re-reading it to see if I will be able to better appreciate it on my second read-through, but I did not enjoy this and so will not be rushing to re-read it.
