The Harder They Come by T.C. Boyle

I picked this up as a break from some of the heavier non-fiction I'm reading. I have enjoyed many of T. C. Boyle's books and both his narrative structure and prose style did not fail me now. The subject matter, however, was hardly a break--this is a bleak story, well-told. I found the passages about the historical character with whom the main character feels a connection particularly interesting. The Harder They Come fits an ongoing trend in my personal fiction reading--there are no sympathetic characters.
