The first chapter of Inheritance of Shadows is a tidied up version of The Gate, the free 7.5k short story that was the start of the whole universe. The rest of the 28k words continues Matty and Rob's story in rural England just after the First World War.
It was written as a serial for newsletter subscribers over a twelve month period and although it was an interesting experiment I don't think it's one I'll repeat. It felt a bit like writing to undergraduate deadlines and I have decided I'm too old for an essay crisis every month!
There is a deleted scene called Rob's War which is available to subscribers of my newsletter.
