This was a bizarre combination of courtroom drama and all of the Louisa May Alcott books. It landed a little too much on the fiction side of historical fiction for me. I enjoyed thinking about the role of midwives in history and the importance of record keeping to a community. Also the author’s note at the end actually made me like it even less, so maybe skip that if you enjoyed the book.
Graphic: Rape, Murder
Moderate: Physical abuse
