Luster by Raven Leilani

5.0

This is the kind of book I can see myself rereading in a year and having a whole new perspective on it. "Luster" is definitely the most unusual book I have picked up recently. The book is told from Edie's perspective and what I love about this book is that we are treated to her thoughts. Her thoughts as they happen and very rarely do we get to see much else.

Honestly, I get when people say that this is what "Such a Fun Age" was trying to do. Because with Edie we get a front character that too is letting life happen to her, but instead of trying to make sense of everyone else, Raven Lailani tries to point us only to Edie, how she fits into the world, what she wants from it, her thoughts both mundane and profound and other people that filter through the thoughts.

Her capturing of a 23-year-old character is also beautifully done. Edie definitely resembles the people in my life who are around the same age.

I tore through this book and now kind of regret not reading it slowly, to savour the nuances and the beautiful storytelling provided by Raven Leilani.
