The Bone People by Keri Hulme
3.0
I started out really enjoying this one. Stylistically, it's incredibly varied, drifting not only among the different characters' perspectives, but also between first and third person with no warning. It's also interspersed with Maori. It's beautiful writing, to be sure, but made for slow reading.
I had a hard time finishing it. The story started to drag on, and after awhile I was really sick of the ongoing child abuse that I stopped caring what happened to one of the main characters.
I can 100% see why some people have loved this book. It's beautifully written.
