I found this book hard to get into. I was about to DNF when I read other reviewers saying they were glad they pushed through, that it was worth it. And I agree, I’m glad I pushed through and finished the book. It really picks up around 50% in, and I found myself not wanting to put it down….until the last few pages where the MC basically debriefs/makes sense of everything that happened, and it’s pretty cringey.
All of the progress Rosie seemed to be making, learning to not find her self worth in others, working towards not overly-romanticizing things, being okay with being single…was suddenly flipped, rationalized, and the book ended with the implication of a new relationship now that Rosie had decided to put herself first. I appreciate the idea that despite everything that happened, Rosie hasn’t really changed that much…but it felt like the author was saying “if you’re desperately single, just come to terms with your single-ness and THEN you’ll be able to find a man/woman/person.
