I'd put off reading this book for years and that was a bad decision on my part. The character of Evelyn Hugo is intriguing and her connection with Monique Grant always keep the reader curious enough to read further. Her essense of doing things that won't really make a bold statement but still choosing to do them, since she wants to be in control is hard to argue. EH is impulsive, reckless woman who loved what she did, she wanted that power and that's what you love about her.
Evelyn was one stubborn and selfish women and I do love her for that but I'm not fond of the idea of being closest to her, she is reckless and insincere when she does things and she is also loving while she does them. One can't figure out if you should love her for that or just hate her to the very core.
The seven husbands that have been portrayed in the book bring something out of her. It's strange none of Evelyn Hugo's marriage had anything in common. All her marriages had a different aura to it, it's like these marriages were not even to the same person. It could be seven different marriage on seven different timelines and that's what is intimidating about this one. She made the decisions for either money or fame or Celia.
She telling her story to let the world know that she made some choices, some right others wrong and she isn't looking for pity. The book is more of telling the people that she loved Celia. Harry saw her and made her she was. A true blue. How other marriages mattered little in the longer. The way she starts alone and ends alone and chooses to be in control of her death was a full closure. Tell the world, Evelyn Hugo says goodbye'. Raw emotion that cannot be expressed around any better.
Read the book, fall in love with Evelyn Hugo.
