Utopia Avenue
by David Mitchell
I love David Mitchell, and reading an article about this book made me nervous that it wouldn't be as good as the others!! This was an unfounded worry, thank goodness. It did take a very long time to get to the meta-analysis, and there wasn't nearly enough dialogue from the horologists, and none from their perspective! But the tie-in you'd expect is there, without being predictable. A lot of people said this book is just a bunch of name-dropping of contemporary-to-the-band/story musicians, but I found that part fascinating. I am super mad about one final choice with a certain character, but only because I grew attached to everyone, especially him. Overall, really good, on par with Slade House and The Thousand Autumns. Maybe not quite on the level of Cloud Atlas or the Bone Clocks (my favorite).
