Baby Proof by Emily Giffin

4.0

I nearly gave up on Baby Proof because I found the heroine so irritating at the start. I found her unlikable and found myself making comparisons to another book I enjoyed better. But I'm glad I stuck with it. The premise of a childless couple having to renegotiate when one has a change of heart is a dramatic incident of the unending negotiations one makes is a committed relationship.

What I like most about this story is that it doesn't offer easy answers. Instead, the book challenged my way of thinking and challenged me to try and understand someone who made different choices in life than I would have made. In terms of story, this book is probably more of a 3.5 stars. I love that Emily Giffin managed to make the heroine if not likable, at least relatable. The book stimulated me intellectually, making me question both the morality of the characters and of social conventions. This would be a great book to discuss with a group of married moms.
