The Bookworm's Guide to Faking It by Emma Hart

3.0

I read this one right after reading The Bookworm's Guide to Dating, and they are fun and fluffy and light-hearted. However, I feel like some of the second book is just sort of recycled from the first. Holley doesn't seem that much different from Kinsley. Less awkward, but their attitudes are a little over-the-top. I think the author was trying to write playful banter, but both women come off as a little too cringey and angry sometimes. Also, I didn't love that Holley admitted she planned to react in the same way to conflict at 29 that she did at 18. Did she not grow up a little bit?

And this is a minor detail, but the couples in both the first and second books try to find something to watch on Netflix, and both choose Schitt's Creek. I love the show, but it just seemed forced to have an entire conversation about the same real sitcom in both books.

I'm giving it three stars, though, because I do love a lighthearted romance especially one that involves a bookstore and a baseball player.
