I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Hazel is a young woman who joins the Rosie the riveter movement to escape her life in the Midwest. When the war ends, she’s left without a job and without a home to go back to. Finding herself in Laguna Beach, she strikes up unexpected relationships with an older artist, a bartender, and a kitschy art community. As she learns more about the history of this town and her employer, she grows to love the community. When a Hollywood starlet shows up, Hazel begins to doubt everything. The characters were perfectly flawed and I truly appreciated the community that welcomed Hazel.
