Isaac's Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History by Erik Larson

5.0

What happens when man's hubris believes they can outsmart the weather? The deadliest hurricane in US History.

This non-fiction novel tells the story of the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. Well written and fully engaging, this is more than just a story about a hurricane and its victims. This is a story about a man who touted himself a hero but was probably anything but one. It is a story about people banding together through unthinkable horrors. It is a story about the errors and arrogance of men while detailing the lives of ordinary good people.

Meticulously researched, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in natural disasters, human ingenuity, and historical accuracy. I learned so much about meteorology, the history of massive hurricanes, and a town that was once so bright, it was destined to outshine all others.

I am not normally a non-fiction reader but this book was engrossing from start to finish. Incredible read.
