I will always love this book, as even outside of the larger context of The Lord of the Rings it stands strong as an excellent fantasy adventure story. Bilbo is an enigmatic and engaging main character and his adventure with Gandalf and the dwarves is exhilarating. I especially loved this edition, enriched as it is with the author’s own illustrations. A great start to my annual re-read of Tolkien’s works.
