Always, in December by Emily Stone

4.0

Emily Stone's Always in December was off my radar until I received it as a surprise book mail from my sister. With zero expectations, I dived into Josie's story, who is haunted by her past and dreads Christmas time. Josie then unexpectedly crossed paths with Max during the festive season.

I enjoyed reading about their first meeting and thought it was cute and uncommon. Her meet-cute with Max sparked my interest, but my enjoyment turned into annoyance as he consistently inserted himself into every aspect of Josie's life. I was cheering for Josie to break free and cut ties with him, especially after what he did further on in the story.

As the story unfolded, my irritation towards Max changed after I understood the reasons behind his actions. The ending took me by surprise, kept me reading past midnight and made me cry.

The writing was good, as it made you connect with the characters and their emotions. Overall, it was a touching and heartbreaking story about family, loss, grief, friendship, and love.

If you are looking for a Christmas love story, then this tear-jerker might be perfect for you!
