I was told I would come to love Nesta in this book but sadly we continue to be disappointed just as Nesta continues to be a hateful villain with an added bonus of being an alcoholic now. Like bro how are you going to get mad at someone for staging an intervention after you blew all of THEIR money to commit slow burn self harm??
I do understand her thought process to a certain level and realize a lot of bullshit she spewed is a projection of her self image and stems from her childhood trauma and yet I can’t justify the shit she put Feyre through the years. Even forgetting the shit she did during their childhood, I can’t get behind the hateful garbage that comes of her mouth now. Why are you made Feyre didn’t include you in a family painting when you continuously pushed her away, called her names, showed clear resentment towards her and favoritism towards Elain, and belittled & mocked her? Be so fucking for real.
Apart from Nesta being objectively the worst, the book is a good commentary on how different people process trauma so differently despite coming from the same situation. All three sisters experienced similar trauma and tragedy and each one of them coped so differently despite being in the same environment even afterwards. I would have probably appreciated that more if Nesta wasn’t driving me towards hypertension.
Additionally, the plotline wasn’t the best in my opinion. There were some elements that were so incredibly good but overall it kind of felt like a filler episode of a CW show. It was also unnecessarily smutty and a lot of the sex scenes seemed forced for the sake of being known as a spicy book.
I did sob like a baby at the end when the Feyre and Nesta scene happened. Also lowkey gave me the ick from Azriel??
