🛏 A whole year of sleep. That’s our narrator’s plan, and she’s terrifyingly committed to it. The premise hooked me, but actually reading it felt more like trudging through the fog than being pulled into the story.
The narrator is purposefully unlikeable—self-absorbed, cruel, numb—and while I admire what Ottessa Moshfegh was going for, I found it hard to stay engaged. There are flashes of biting humor and sharp social commentary, but the monotony (which is the point!) eventually wore me down too much to fully enjoy.
