The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton
3.0

Short review: Read this book if you're looking for something to pass the time and appreciate a little corniness.

Maybe I am a little biased because I live in the future, but this novel doesn’t really hold up. It's just not as suspenseful as it was billed to be in my opinion. First of all, everyone but Harry is an idiot. Yes, I understand technology better than people in the 70s, but I also apparently know better than to go home and take a shower when there’s a murderer at large.

This does have a lot of what I enjoy about Crichton's writing in that he goes into great detail on the technical side to show he did his research. It's very compelling, and he does that in every sci-fi novel (and even in those outside the genre). I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more as a young kid, but now I just read it as tropey. And then I was like, wait a second, is this where all the tropes come from? Do we have authors like him to thank?
