Spontaneous by Aaron Starmer
4.0
This book was very unique and unusual. I appreciate the creativity of the author to use Spontaneous Combustion to be a metaphor for so many things in a teens life. I'm not sure if that's even what was intended, but that's what I took away from this book. Especially the part about looking inward when things go wrong and tending to blame yourself. I feel that on a very real level.
I was also very impressed with the main character's voice. She was written very well. She had a distinct personality and view on the world and I feel like that helped tell the story and keep the reader invested.
I would not classify this as a happy ending book, but there is a possibility of interpretation by the reader. If you're expecting a happily ever after and everything wrapped up in a neat little bow, this is no the book for you. But that's life, not always do we get a nice neat ending to a situation or phase in our lives. Sometimes it's messy and confusing.
