Elysia - known to all as Sia - has been hiding from her life for years. From a single mistake that cost her more than she has begun to deal with. Hush doesn’t speak of the horror that his life as the beloved child of an interracial marriage but raised in small town Louisiana. And Cowboy charms the world as he tries to atone for youthful discretions that nearly cost him his soul.

This was a fascinating story that had SO MUCH going on. There are layers of racism and systemic beliefs that are ingrained in children starting in infancy. There are discussion of how no matter how much progress is made - interracial couples are still viewed as strange. There are conversations about making a mistake as a teenager and what happens when you go to atone. And meanwhile there is a throuple forming in a way that is organic and fascinating.

Unlike many of Hades Hangmen - most of this really doesn’t have to do with the MC - it is more about the silence that people hold to hold themselves together and the cost of pervasive isolation and loneliness. Cowboy, Hush and Sia are all so intensely lonely and it is heartbreaking. I do wish I had seen more of them falling and pining for each other? That seemed to just - happen? But their chemistry as a throuple is beautiful.
