Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams

People (rightly) describe it as the most depressing of the books, but there was enough fun stuff in it that I still enjoyed it. There was some actual interesting science thrown in, including some not-bad descriptions of alternate universes involving "discontinuities in the probability axis"...
Mildly spoilerish: The presence of an non-Adams but fully authorized Hitchhiker sequel (#6: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6359434-and-another-thing) with the same old characters somewhat tempers the most depressing aspects of this one. :)
