Evening in Paradise by Lucia Berlin

5.0

It would be neat to say Lucia Berlin is a breath of fresh air because her writing is so different from the books I often read, but that would be a little confusing because her works are so messy. The people are messy, the relationships are messy and life is so complicated. Overall, the stories were less challenging than A Manual for Cleaning Women, but I enjoyed it just as much. There was a little less self-destruction, and perhaps a little more variety in the characters and stories. I consider Berlin a masterful short story writer, and the perfect dose of variety to spice up my reading list.
