The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

Absolutely not for me. The plot is cool and exciting but there is so much info dumping happening alllllllllllllllllll the time. I don't care about the nuances of Christiandom in the middle ages, all these different orders with a bunch of people and names. I couldn't even get it straight why there was a conflict between the pope and the emperor. Like, chill out. Also there is so many boring descriptions of just random shit, like the carvings in the church, which give the main character hallucinations about heaven and hell (fuck's sake) or the illuminations on a book (described in absolute detail for pages and pages. After more than halfway through the book i decided to spare myself the pain of the boring shit and just skip whenever I saw a long block of text (like the part where the main character is infatuated and discusses it at length with himself, or when Jorge goes on a multi-page monologue about sin). Anyway it is a pity because if all that were removed, it would be a cool read. But naur soz bye.
