The Shunning by Beverly Lewis

4.0

Many reviews claim this book as being predictable. As I read it, I think the predictability of it was intentional. It's all about finding the "how". As the reader, you know she's adopted. You know the answers you thought of for other questions are most likely true as well. However, this book gave an insight to the life of the Amish community. The women must be submissive. When you are shunned, your family as well as the community doesn't talk to you or recognize you. They believe this is the way of God. My only problem was with the ending. I do realize now that this is the first book in a series, but the ending wasn't strong enough to lead to the next book. Though I can predict what that one will be about, but it won't stop me from reading it.
