“The way we could only ever know the emotional contours of a single place finally, I think we might only ever know a single house too.” -SGJ
Holy wowzers. This was like revisiting my feels for Flanagan’s Haunting of Hill House and Kliewer’s We Used to Live Here. There’s something about not just a haunted house story but a story about a house so cursed in a wtf way that it bends time and space in intricate puzzle box ways. Throw in some creepy kid tropes and I’m just utterly entranced the whole time.
Also this was such a good audiobook. Listening to the narrator’s emotion of Charlotte during the whole wild tale was the extra seasoning on top of a perfect meal.
