So glad that I slogged my way through this, it's a beautifully-written book and the prose was so refreshing. I had never heard of this before, but a friend recommended it and I was so glad I found it.
I will say this: most of the time, stories about average (or below-average, in Quoyle's case) men are a dime a dozen. This one feels different on a couple of levels, but mostly it's the clipped, sing-song prose language that makes you keep reading. You love the protagonist and his family, but you also feel a tiny bit of pleasure when he screws up at stuff. Just cuz.
