It pains me to give this only 2 stars. The writing was indeed beautiful, and the characters so life-like. Typical Erdrich. I felt as though the dystopian premise of reverse evolution was less developed and I found myself floundering a bit—but that could have been intentional (we readers are as confused as the protagonists).
