Finding Winnie is about a veterinarian who is in a war. On his way to Canada, his army train stops at a train station and he walks around for a bit. He sees a man holding a leash and on the end of that leash is a bear. He decides to take a risk and he offers to buy the bear from the man. He brings it with him to war where he raises and loves the cub and so do his fellow soldiers. They have lots of adventures together and this story teaches us that sometimes the best stories are true.
Activity- Tell the kids to imagine what it would be like to own a pet bear. Have them keep a week long journal of what they would do with their bear and how they would take care of it. At the end of the week, have them to ask their parents about any strange or cool stories about their past relatives they might not have known before. Have the kids bring the pictures to class and have them share different family stories.
