I had great expectations about reading this book, but they weren't really fulfilled, by that I must say that it's not a bad book, the story is quite compelling and one finds oneself immersed with it. However I found it quite hard to read, not because of the story but because of the writing, this is the first book I've ever read of Styron, and somehow I found it dull and full of details I somehow could have done without, I do however understand that the book in itself is a material piece of History and Culture in a peculiar context, where things were less than perfect.
