I'm going through the same thing with my chubby daughter, Lindsey. She loves to eat, and I love that she's not picky. She just still needs to learn how to control her weight. She's ten.

Physical activity has not helped Lindsey to lose weight; maybe because it causes her to eat more? Every summer I take her to the pool in the morning and make her swim, yet her weight stays the same. Last fall I trained her to run a 5K. She ran (jogged) the whole race except for stopping at the two water stations. I was so proud. Then at school, in December, she was the second-highest scoring girl and fifth-highest scorer overall of the running pace test, out of 27 kids; her teachers were amazed. (She's fat, but I trained her in the correct technique of pacing). Yet, despite this and all of her other activites, she is technically obese. So I finally made an appointment with a nutritionist that my doctor recommended a while ago.

There are just some people who love to eat more than other people. Weiss's daughter Bea is one of them, and I see similarities between her and Lindsey in this book. Yet Bea learned how to control her weight, which is great. I think it's good that Weiss took a vigilant approach. It's hard. Lindsey will pick cold cereal over oatmeal with raisins. She always wants noodles, and she eats too much peanut butter. I'm hoping the nutritionist can help with this (Lindsey is agreeable with seeing a nutritionist). She is a great dinner guest, though. She will eat anything. Not kidding.
