I am a believer in books coming into your life and queue at poignant times and this story did just that. I needed a reminder that women’s relationships are powerful, magic is real, putting ourselves on the back burner can be for complicated reasons but that dreams can be reignited and the self can shift. A 41 year old woman (they may have said 31 year old but I heard what I wanted) wanting a baby and then shifting to back to her dream of being an historian facing the unknown with bravery as the apothecary and Eliza did is empowering to me right now in this moment. Also to know that daughters do not have to be of one’s own flesh and blood but found is a comfort.
