King of Greed by Ana Huang

2.0

I gave this 2 stars, so clearly I didn’t HATE it, but at the same time I did? I don’t know anymore. I didn’t have the highest expectations, if anything I had really low expectations and somehow this still managed to disappoint and anger me. I’m a sucker for a second chance romance and marriage in crisis story…except THIS MARRIAGE WASN’T IN CRISIS BECAUSE IT QUITE LITERALLY ENDED! Let me repeat that, these two literally got a divorce! Legally nothing was tying them to each other anymore, legally they were both fully able to move on with their lives. Alessandra asked Dominic to let her go if he ever loved her, which he did, but then followed her to Brazil because he just “couldn’t live without her”...well buddy you were living without her just fine for the last three years of your marriage. These two got divorced and then almost immediately got into a purely physical relationship with one another…without ever actually talking about why their marriage ended in the first place. If there’s one thing I hate, it's lack of communication and the use of sex in hopes that it’ll magically make all the problems disappear, which is exactly what this book turned into. I think what angered me the most is that this all could have been avoided had they just communicated like healthy adults instead of giving up on the marriage when things got tough. Alessandra did what she thought was best for her by leaving the marriage, without actually ever communicating with her husband…Idk maybe next time sit his ass down and force him into hearing you out especially if you’re just gonna take him back like nothing happened. And Dominic, classic alpha male behavior (disgusting) cares more about his precious empire until his wife leaves him and suddenly he remembers he loves her? Don’t even get me started on the plot of this book because it was honestly nonexistent. The only thing that made this a 2 star instead of a 1 star is that there were some really good quotes and the flashbacks from when they first fell in love were really good. I would’ve cared more about these two if the story was just about how they fell in love and not about how it all fell apart.
Final thoughts: I hope King of Sloth is better because so far this series has been so disappointing
