For me to positively rate a book that's mainly about animals is quite a stretch but my 3 star rating is a testament to how nicely written this book is. I'll never understand why a man would want that many skunks and raccoons living with him in his tiny house but the author made the situation intriguing enough for me to enjoy this book. The young girl character is a strong willed one in contrast to many of the female characters created in the 1950's. I'd recommend this book to any young reader 7 years and older especially those that are animal lovers.
