The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson
5.0
Say one thing about Sanderson, say the bugger can write really entertaining stories. Allow of Law picks up 300 years after the events of Mistborn series.
Can this be read as a starting point in the overall Mistborn series, sure, it can be, if you like a little bit of confusion in your stories. It's alright. There are subtle nods to Mistborn books in the story and some of them can be heartbreaking when they happen. In a good way, but heartbreaking still.
I loved this story for Wayne mostly. He is an eccentric character that is part comic-relief and part weirdness, but 100% endearing. You never know what you are going to get when Wayne is on the page.
Also, the action in the book is even more amazing because now we have allomancy with bullets and guns and there are new powers like Speed Bubbles and instant healing.
And at the bottom of it all, it's a really good story. A fantastic caper that doesn't slow down anywhere. It's a tight story and I love that kind of stories. No extra meat, all speed, no brakes.
It is fantastic!
