Sycamore Row by John Grisham
5.0

I loved revisiting Jake Brigance. It had been many years since I read A Time to Kill or one of John Grisham’s books. Of course, I watched A Time to Kill many years ago, and read this book with Matthew McConaughey’s southern drawl in my mind. The book was long, but there is a reason that John Grisham is a bestseller and well known author. He starts the story in a way that you are wondering how will this be similar? In what way is this going to put us in the courtroom? This was a well done sequel. A good book ties everything together seamlessly, and this book did that.

My only complaint was there was not a lot of interaction with Jake’s personal life, and I kept wanting more of that intimacy of who Jake is and what drives him.

There was a note to the reader in the back of my copy, in which Grisham explains his wife thinks he is now too far removed from the real life struggles of struggling to survive and make end’s meet as a young lawyer. I think perhaps that’s why the details were slim on Jake’s personal life.

Still loved it overall.
