Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik
4.0
The sequel to [b:His Majesty's Dragon|28876|His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire #1)|Naomi Novik|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1376392909s/28876.jpg|726205], Throne of Jade expands Novik's Napoleonic dragon fantasy world by showing that dragons are much more than just animals to be owned by humans and used for battle. The sea voyage to China takes up a lot of the book, but the way Novik paces the action is still pretty good. This sequel is expansive and opens up many more directions for the book's characters to take in future entries in the series. Temeraire, the dragon, now knows that he can walk a city's streets, write poetry, and have a profession other than serving in the military. More interestingly, he realizes his situation is akin to slavery, even though he is a powerful slave.
