A Quiet Life by Ethan Joella is a beautiful novel about three people who have suffered a loss of one kind or another and find their lives intertwining with each other, even though they were strangers beforehand. Chuck is a senior whose wife has passed away and he finds his life to be rudderless without her. Ella’s young daughter is missing and the police have been unsuccessful in finding her, leaving her desperate and unable to go forward. Kirsten’s father was murdered and her plans for veterinary school were shattered because of her grief. These three people’s paths will cross in a number of ways and will make a profound difference to their lives. Ethan Joella has written a thoughtful, sympathetic and engaging novel that underlines that, as the saying goes, no man is an island. Highly recommended.
