All the Lovers in the Night by Mieko Kawakami

A slow paced book good for picking it up occasionally. It’s interesting seeing all pieces fit together because sometimes a chapter would seem sorta abrupt but then it’s mentioned very lightly later on. I’m glad it was a happy ending but I can totally see how some people might not like the ending depending on what they were expecting (it’s definitely a plot twist). It’s a very “real” book and because of that it was a little boring at times but it made sense and was a little relatable. I’d say it can get quite dark and depressing at times so it’s definitely not a slice of life even though it starts out as a feel good slice of life. It’s very much a “sad girl book” (which I define as a book that follows a sad girl around living her life without any strong plot) and I don’t think I like that genre very much so my review is biased based on that.
