My Dad by Susan Quinn

4.0

I am typically hesitant to buy books about parents, because every family looks so different and every parent behaves differently. I would actually buy this book, however, because it is so nice to see a book showing a father who is doing activities that are stereotyped as mom activities. This dad gardens, bakes, does the grocery shopping, bathes the child and reads a book at bedtime. There are also several pages showcasing all of the fun things they do together, like sledding and sports. To top it all off, the illustrations are beautiful and feature a father and son with more melanin in their skin, normalizing healthy father-son relationships in communities of color. There is an over abundance of media showing fatherless homes, neglectful or abusive fathers, and we need more media showing how great dads can be.
