Even If It Hurts by Sam Mariano
4.0

Holy cow! I recently started reading Sam Mariano and I thought Untouchable had some uncomfortable parts but I have never read a story as disturbing as Dare and Aubrey’s. I like dark, controlling, obsessive, smart men who have their own code regardless of how morally reprehensible they might seem. And they have to be obsessed with the heroine. But Dare was difficult even by these standards. SM writes extremely manipulative heroes with goals of gaining power and control thereby creating their own “kingdoms.” Dare definitely had his charms and I still have a soft spot for him but yes the closet to psychopath Ive encountered (maybe the heroines in The Girl in 6E and the Mindf*ck series).

Now that I see that Untouchable was written first, it feels like she took Carter and Zoey and made them both more extreme to create this story. Carter is a potential Dare but Zoey essentially keeps him balanced. She helped him understand himself and gave him an outlet for his dark side. But Aubrey and Dare are more prey and predator than any other character ive read.
The ending definitely left me anxious. That line about room service?????
