Short Stay
by Heidi Cullinan
That’s more like it.
I swear, when I started this book, I didn’t realize it was a New Year’s Eve story on New Year’s Eve.
This shouldn’t be classed as a novella. This was a full story, with significant character beats. If it’s the last we get from this universe, and I hope it’s not, it was a worthy ending. On a day I couldn’t seem to get a literary break, Short Stay introduced great ancillary characters (I suspect I will enjoy them here the most and won’t tempt fate and read their origin stories.) and was a hopeful storyline about the families we make, the chances we give each other, and the hope for a better world. I could do worse ringing in 2023!
