how can i even explain that i just knew this was going to be one of my new favorite books within the first 100 pages? i'm writing this after my second read, barely two months after i read it for the first time because, yes, i loved it that much.

it's difficult to lay out all the reasons why this is so brilliant but, of course, the easiest way to start would be the characters. the characters!!!! if you ever need to know whether you prefer plot-heavy or character-heavy books, this one will tell you. what makes the atlas six so special is the people it follows and i'll probably never tire of praising olivie blake for creating the sexiest, most-charismatic, complex six characters i've ever read. there's also a lot of praise to be given for the side characters, which are actually so equally fundamental to the story that it feels unfair to call them side characters. everyone has a role here and it's clear olivie blake has spent a lot of time crafting the most interesting and powerful people the world of TA6 has ever seen.

i could truly do an entire essay on each of the characters and why i love them, but for brevity sake i'll leave that for another time and place. i'll just say

- nico de varona is my husband
- i'll also do anything to protect gideon
- there's nothing i want more than libby's corruption arc but i'll also fight anyone who says anything bad about her
- tristan caine deserves better and i know i can give it him
- parisa kamali can use me and i'll beg "do it again please"
- on a reread i think reina is a lot more complex and morally corrupted than i initially thought and i'm so excited for her development
- and callum nova deserves a special shoutout because how ironic that the empath is the one character that divides readers the most, evoking such different emotions from people. "an empath with no empathy. surely you hear how foolish you sound?" again, need to praise the olivie's talent in characterization. upon reread, I THINK CALLUM MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE OKAY.

the characters have such a strong presence throughout the whole book that the plot tends to get a bit lost, but i wanna point out how interesting i found the world building / magic system to be. i hesitate to say it's now one of my favourites because i think there's still so much to explore, but it's definitely working its way up to the list. it's fascinating that people can have all sorts of powers, some rarer than others, and even the most powerful medians don't truly know the extent of what they can do until they collaborate with others. i have a feeling we're gonna see these characters do mind-blowing things that we can't even predict now.

i'm beyond excited for the sequel, mostly because i have no idea where it's going. the ending here definitely opens a lot of doors (lol, if you know you know) and hints where it's going, but if one thing is certain is that there is much to be explored and anything could change very quickly. can't wait!!!
