The Boyfriend List: 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver by E. Lockhart

4.0

3.5-I’m somewhat mixed on this book. I love the way this is book is written, it is funny and Ruby is a great character, I want to know more about her and where she ends up. Ruby is figuring out what life is about, and Lockhart does a great job of being honest about how hard that can sometimes be. At the same time, it made me sad to watch Ruby go through everything that happened to her, there were several cringe-inducing moments for me.

This is a realistic description of what many teenage girls go through, but I found it very hard to relate. That these girls would allow themselves to be so compromised and lose friendships (albeit not very healthy ones) over guys who are total assholes is depressing to me. I felt (and appreciated) that the author acknowledged that point thoughtfully though. I liked that we see Ruby starting to figure things out in the end as she starts to feel better about herself.

Cheating/boyswapping-drama stories are not usually my favorite, but I think Lockhart handles the scenario as well as it can be.
