duchess 's review for:
The Murder Stone
by Louise Penny
4 stars. We finally get some backstory about Armand Gamache! We learn about his parents - primarily his father - and a bit of his childhood life. This is also the first book that takes place outside of Three Pines (but not too far, mind)!
Weirdly I felt that the actual murder behind the story was lacklustre, but I don't actually think Penny ever meant for us to focus on it too much. Instead, this was a very good dive into the anatomies of family relationships and the power of self-delusion. The stories we tell ourselves may originally have no basis in truth, but the more we believe in them the more they manifest into reality.
