We Only Find Them When They're Dead, Book One: The Seeker by Al Ewing

3.0

Very beautiful art and an interesting concept. The storytelling is unfortunately really damaged by the lack of good visual language and sign posting. While the use of color is visually striking, it fails to use the available tools to convey changes in time and place, and the art is too focused on merely showing who is speaking, rather than clearly conveying action. The plot seems meant as a thing of small consequence inserted to give the opportunity for world building, and indeed the plot really failed to capture my interest. World building also faltered however, as the book reached to establish certain rules (an authority which is always monitoring speech for example) but then violates the same rules too immediately without clearly expressing consequences. It ended up feeling muddy and "when" was always hard to establish.
