A brilliant and fascinating read on the growth of constitutions and constitutionalism in the early modern world. As a counter to other history book’s focus on the links with democracy, Linda Colley focuses on the links with the military and finds many. However, it was the stories of lesser-known constitutions which I found most fascinating.
