The Thing in the Snow by Sean Adams

5.0

It's hard to describe why I enjoyed this book so much, but somewhere in here, in this mess of daily drudgery, Sean Adams brilliantly articulates the fundamental inanity of corporate work. The book works like a blend of VanderMeer and The Thing without being scary, and Office Space without being comedic - this book is hilarious in its subdued simplicity. This book is horrific in its dehumanization. This book is obtuse in its lack of clear answer. But never is the book so simple as to be "Comedy" or "Horror" or anything like that - its subtle, pressing, hypnotic strangeness compels you, draws you out, focuses you on its insistence that Something is Wrong.

Just in this case the Wrongness is Corporate Middle Management. Incredible.
