A Wolf at the Table: A Memoir of My Father by Augusten Burroughs
challenging
dark
sad
5.0
I haven’t read Running With Scissors yet, but after reading this I feel so devastated that Augusten Burroughs experienced even more trauma after getting away from his father. Enough for another book.
I took my time with this for my own sanity. A lot of time. My personal experiences were not the same as his, but his reactions and feelings are very familiar to me. It’s always difficult for me to read from the POV of a scared child.
Visceral is the only word I can use. It’s a heavy read, but so beautifully written that it genuinely, truly astounds me.
The end….owie!
